梅重（うめがさね）とは、重なり合った紅い梅の花のような明るい紅赤（べにあか）色のことです。平安時代の重（かさ）ねの装束（しょうぞく）に由来した色名で、色目としては「表・濃紅（こきべに）、裏・紅梅（こうばい）」で紅梅の花の重なりを表した配色となっており、十一月から二月にかけて着用されていました。

梅の花といえば一般的には白なこともあり、「表・白、裏・紅梅」で白梅と紅梅の重なりを表現しているのが『梅重』という別説もありますが、平安後期の有職家の源雅亮（みなもとのまさすけ）が記した『満佐須計装束抄（まさすけしょうぞくしょう）』の襲色目にも紅梅の襲が見られますので、やはり紅赤系の色が有力でしょう。

淡（あわ）い『薄紅梅（うすこうばい）』の着物に鮮やかな『梅重』の帯でアクセントをきかせるような同系色での組み合わせは、伝統的な配色で「匂（にお）い」と呼ばれました。ちなみに、上に濃い色を配し下にいくほど色を薄くするグラデーションも「匂い」と呼びます。
